I have had a manual with cruise and did exactly as you do,,I have medical issues that led me down the track -of getting an auto.
I retrofitted the cruise and found the same issues as you+whilst in cruise at say 70mph ,if there was a slight incline,it would change down a cog,,I didn't like this as I thought the torque of the engine should cope with it in 5th(as my old manual did).
So I had it remapped from the basic 116bhp,by Big Russ(thankyou)and found I got plenty of torque .
One other thing was that I found that pressing the ''snow'' mode helped to stop it dropping cogs unnecessarily+helped the economy slightly as well.
Hope this helps,
Ken.

That's a good point Bob, but wait a minute! I find that I actually have to concentrate and anticipate much more when cruise is engaged.

Same with air bags, cars should have six inch spikes welded to the center of the steering wheels, and seat belts should be elastic.

Excellent Bob!

By the way it's "centre" this side of the Atlantic.

I have been driving 30 years and had about 100 cars since passing my test.

Not one has been manual and I never will have one. Why make life difficult?

I have had both and so far as I am concerned, there really is nothing much between the two choices - each has their pros and cons.

When driving a manual, the actions of changing gear are all but invisible to me - its an automatic response which I am not really involved in. Manual can be a bit wearying in traffic, but then I don't spend time in traffic anyway and I do like the full control a manual gives.

An automatic makes any traffic easy, always in the right gear, but you pay for it in additional fuel. It can also be very expensive to fix if something goes wrong.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Clutch renewal is expensive too isn't it. Don't forget all the problems with the hydraulics as well.

i think automatic and manual are evenly balanced on that score.

Well, the plot thickens, I went to have a look at the car Shaun is selling, and I have a pretty good idea of what is wrong

The MAF is goosed, but more importantly after I pulled the sopping wet towel that was stuffed into the space vacated by the pollen filter, there was around 3" of standing water in the plenum

Opened up the ECM, and I can't believe this car was actually running at all !!, the tide mark was half way up the casing, the lower screws were rotten, and on inspection the lower section of the PCB was covered in severe corrosion everywhere

Shaun didn't wish to have the ECM replaced, as it would have taken any profit he had out of the sale, but a replacement ECM and MAF is definitely required.

Oh and it's a 116 PS variant too

Apart from the dig on the nearside sill, it looked not bad, and it had lots and lots of toys, sunblind, non stripy IPK, cruise, lowline nav, memory seats, and rain sensing wipers.

A shame really, as an 85000 mile automatic will surely meet it's maker, I can't see the ECM lasting much longer, in fact I told him I'd be surprised if it gets him home

DONE: HAD A CRAZY IDEA THAT I HAD TO GET RID OF MY MG ZTT DUE TO NOT HAVING A DRIVE AND HAVING TO PARK ON A BUSY STREET WITH A VIEW TO GETTING ANOTHER ONE AT A LATER DATE WHEN I HAVE A DRIVE.

ENDED UP REALISING IT REALLY ISN'T PRACTICAL NOT HAVING A CAR TO GET AROUND AND I NOW OWN A VW EOS 3.2 V6 INDIVIDUAL (1 OF 20 REMAINING IN THE UK WITH THAT ENGINE AND TRIM COMBO) EVEN THOUGH I STILL LIVE ON A BUSY ROAD WITHOUT A DRIVE
