Default Crankshaft locking tool - cdti auto-NI

Hi folks, father in law is looking to change his crankshaft pulley.
He would like to know
A) if there is anywhere he can purchase the locking tool.
B) if there is anyone in N.I. That has one that he could borrow.

He has tried both electric & air impact guns, but neither have shifted it.

On eBay ATM for £37.99, have seen a little cheaper from the same seller so might be worth checking his other listings. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-M47-E4...xcAAOSw8w1X4wn

Tried & tested yesterday with above locking tool......which sheared at the welds.😱😱😱.
I wasn't there, but father in law can't believe how tight it is.
He is going to re-weld & try again tonight.

Not what most would recommend, but I seemed to remember using the starter motor(very very briefly)using the right size socket and wedging the Tommie bar,and then keeping the area clear,,,came off without any drama.
Didn't need a special tool.

I have one but I can't afford to drive to Newry!

Have you tried putting diesel into an squint bottle and applying it, leaving it and then pulling it off?

If carried out safely and correctly the starter motor method works well. I have used this method five times faultlessly and safely.

Default Crankshaft locking tool - cdti auto-NI

Thanks for the suggestions folks, but he really wouldn't use the starter motor method. Appreciate the offer Colin.👍.

Locking tool was rewelded, with an additional "stub piece" welded on to stop it coming out of place. (Don't know, haven't seen it yet, but must take a photo, next time I'm down).
He Broke a 1/2" bar at first, but got a lend of a 3/4" bar and socket, and it eventually shifted, with 2 16 stone men hanging on the end of a length of box iron, over a 3 ft breaker bar.
Hallelujah...😄
Looking forward to doing mine when the time comes....😁
