Another thing. It is the CAR that's insured over here and any person with a valid license and permission from the owner can drive it. For instance all the valid family members can drive it on the same one insurance policy.

Same thing is applied in Croatia, on both counts. You are asked who was driving, and driver gets the fine and points.

Also CAR is insured and allowed person with valid license can drive it.

I don't think foreign drivers understand that in the UK, the driver has to be insured to drive the car, not the other way round.

Don't worry, us sensible Brits will soon bring that sort of logic to an end!

Why would they need to understand that ???

Their own foreign insurance covers them.--

It seems you are suggesting that every foreign driver entering Britain in his own car would have to take out British insurance. Simply not true.---

Go stand in the corner.----

It is just different way of automotive insurance from my standing point. Having in mind this way insurance worked all my life I am used to look it in different way then you. Of course, if I would going to live in UK and need to make insurance in UK, then I would need to adapt the way it is where I am living at that point in time. If I am just a tourist with my car or car hiring, then my insurance, or car hiring company will have to cover insurance in the proper way.

Similar but for equal cover about half as much again as in Britain.

Cars too plus spare parts are often one and a half to twice as much.

I can buy parts from Euro spares and have them shipped here for half the price I would pay for them here. ( That includes shipping as well. )

The clutch I fitted to my wife's C4 Citroen was made here in France and exported to Britain. I bought it back at less than half price. Incredible.--

A warning for those who think there is no point in paying a French or other foreign motoring fine, a work mate got done last year and did not pay when the fine came throught the post, when he went across this year as he got to the French customs to come home he was pulled over and his car was impounded for non payment of a fine, the 45 Euro fine had turned into a fine a lot bigger. He has not admitted to how much but from the way he has gone on about it I suspect it was eye watering.

I suppose if you sell your car and don't have a personal plate it wont be a problem but it could ruin your holiday for the sake of £40.

Back to the original post which was about “Parking”.

Edinburgh Airport have apologised and are refunding the extra £6 plus they have offered me free parking on my visit on Sunday.

However they disagree with my time though saying I was over the hour despite me having three witnesses who timed my ticket with their phones.

Be warned
