Default That’s all Brother

I was dropping off a parcel at a local nursing home this afternoon when I happened to look up and saw this coming in to land at nearby Prestwick Airport

I said to the missus I’m sure that’s an old DC 3 and thought it’s a bit early for the air show but saw it on the news tonight.

Quite an amazing history with this old aircraft.

What markings did it have?

Probably a C-47 flying in from the USA.

A whole stack of them (30+) are gathering to go over to France on 5th June for the D-Day anniversary.

Was it one of these? https://www.daksovernormandy.com/aircraft/

More details here - https://www.military-airshows.co.uk/press19/daks-over-normandy-duxford.htm

There is an airshow at Duxford as a basis for this.......

Nicely tuned these engines make a lovely sound, but sixty of them? Sweet!

Yes there’s quite a few sitting on the tarmac at Prestwick Airport.

I had to pass that way this evening and the place was swarming with photographers.

Anyone going down there the best place to see them is at the old HMS Gannet gate on the back road from Monkton to Tarbolton

Looking forward to the celebrations - I often pass Stoney Cross Airfield site and the USAAF HQ near Poulner which is now Moyles Court School.

It is a bit sobering to realise that the Concrete ‘passing points’ I drive past most days are the remnants of a truly significant U.K. USA Air Force Bass for D - Day.

Saw them all sitting on the way home from work looked busy even though it was raining.
Some nice looking aircraft on show managed to see a few of them flying around the other day the joys of working adjacent the airport.
