I've used a Bilt Hamber clay bar on my MR2 and now it's as smooth as glass. It's hard work to do a car for the first time but worthwhile.

Most clay bars need to be used with detailer sprays but with BH bars just water. You need to keep the panel wet otherwise the bar catches and can mark the paint. I alternate between two pieces when claying, keeping the other in hot water to keep it supple.

Of what?

My choice of glass cleaner is Bar Keepers Friend (the powder one), mixed to a paste with distilled (white) vinegar. Spread it on with a small sponge (something like one of those kitchen washing up ones but do not use the green scourer bit) using an overlapping circular motion as if it was a wax.

Leave it to dry and polish off. If any has gone on a bit thick a little spray of vinegar will clean it off.

Remember to rinse off with water afterwards as it's acidic - which is how it cleans so well.

Hope that helps.

Good Luck

Andy.

I've no idea what it is, may even be tiny chips in the glass, but on a sunny day driving into the sun, the whole screen is covered in tiny little round spots, almost like spots of sap, except they're been there for ages despite the regular wash, and is getting worse. Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a go.

Try one of these from Halfords they are open if you don't mind a que, how long but it will do the job and all you need is a bucket of warm water with a cap full car shampoo in, you can even make up a clean spray bottle with diluted shampoo in and spray as you go.

Wash car down first with Water/ shampoo so no dust on it, rinse the proceed with the clay mitt. do one panel at a time and do not let the panel get dry or the mitt, keep dipping and spraying as you go.

Hi Paul.
No problem, even better if you have two buckets of warm water, wipe then swill in one bucket keep other bucket to dip into after swill for keeping the mitt wet, but as I say the spray bottle is a good idea to use, change the water as you go from one panel to another, with the mitt any debris picked up will wash off in the bucket you swill in, and should sink to the bottom as grit dirt etc is heaver than water.

Saw a tip on Wheeler Dealers where you put your hand in a plastic bag and when you run it over the bodywork you can feel all the contamination.
