My first was also a Cub, back in 1971 - the original 50's one with a distributor. Haven't got a picture of it sadly, and can't remember what the petrol cost in real money, but my next bike was this T-Bird in 1972 (sorry, Mum wasn't much good with a camera), and I remember petrol then being 35p a gallon (so 7½p a litre in French, if my calculations are correct, which they probably aren't).

£4 5d a gallon when I started driving . I had a pounds worth each week, the girl who manned the pumps used to just top it up without asking . The garage was Smallbones in corner of Raddlebarn Road & Gristhorpe Rd . Birmingham . Still there by the looks of it. Used to specialise in pre war Austins at one time.

I filled the tank on my first car in 1985, 11 gallons cost about £19, £1.75 per gallon

Having said that, if my wages were same then as now, it would make petrol equivalent to about £12 a gallon

I filled the ZT on Tuesday, £1.037 for premium diesel, unleaded was 97.7, and super unleaded £110.7

Just dropped to 99.7 at my local Asda. While the missus has been calling in at the local food shops I’ve been filling up my plastic 5 litre and metal 10 litre cans to fill up the SL in preparation for the “big release”.
It was empty when I put it on SORN and now it’s full to the brim with almost 10 litres spare for the mower.

In the early 1990's I recall filling my Honda MT50 moped for about £3.
First time I filled my own car on the road in 1992 it cost £12 (Mini Clubman Estate).
I ran a Landrover Discovery 2 for about 11 years, when the diesel price was at its height, nearly £1.30 a litre it was costing over £120 to fill it
