Exclamation Intermittent clutch

I have a Rover 75 CDTI with about 90K on clock.

The clutch seems to work fine most of the time, though it does bite from low down, it doesn't slip.

Generally gear changing is fine, but a little while ago it got progressively stiffer over the course of a short journey, until it stranded me unable to get any gear. I was on a tight uphill stretch so got out and directed traffic around me then got back in to roll backwards out of the way. Out of habit tried 1st and it went in lovely and then performed perfectly as I drove home.

Been ok for a while in between, but yesterday the gear selection suddenly started to get progressively stiffer again. Pedal feels normal.

Has anyone experience similar problems.

I checked fluid levels last time it occurred and all seemed ok.

`The pedal on my car had been operating from quite near to the floor for a while. (hard to get the gears. )

I injected some fluid into the system and the clutch has been working perfectly ever since.

Picture below how to do it. Not much fluid need as you can see by the amount in the syringe.

I just tried it & it has definitely improved the pedal. For how long remains to be seen but l'll put her back into daily use next week & see how it goes. Thanks for that tip.

Mine was the original clutch fluid from 2003.---Must have had a minute leak though use over its lifetime. Been working well for months now.---
