Hard wired the number plate lights, one was out for the mot as usual, got sick of banging the boot lid to put it on again.

An unexplored rogue stole small black plugs from my car roof. So I printed them on a 3D printer. Here is the link..https: //www.thingiverse.com/thing: 303615

Removed the bumper and OS headlight to figure out why it stopped working.

The usual culprit is chaffed wiring, however I had addressed the exposed chassis seam earlier in the year so it was unlikely to be cause. Sure enough the wiring was in tact and testing the wiring plug with a multimeter showed current as expected.

Frustratingly I found it was little more than a dodgy connection into the headlight unit, which kicked into life after disconnecting and reconnecting a couple of times. Normal service now restored - shame I've got the needless faff of refitting the bumper to contend with and the task to trying to decrease the awful panel gaps.

Used my Gunsons tracking gauge to solve the pull to the left. As I'd changed some offside suspension parts I suspected that side and wasn't wrong. A slight adjustment on the track rod end and "normal" service was resumed. No more sore right arm on a run! Should have done it earlier! A quick check on both sides again and all is now as it should be.

Weather was kind, so I tackled a job which has irritated me since the car had the rear bumper professionally repainted.........the wheelarch edge had not been keyed very well, and as a result had chipped and flaked quite badly.

So I rubbed it down, cleaned with thinners on a rag, masked up on the radius of the bumper edge, and first etch primer, second base coat, third and fourth lacquer.

After the masking was removed, there was a soft "edge" where old meets new........a few hours later I compounded it with G3 and the blend is almost unnoticeable.

Tomorrow I will waxoyle the wheelarch tubs, and replace the liners, and remove the masking from the suspension.....who knows, I might even drive it for a change !!!

It was nice to potter again, after my enforced house arrest of the past couple of days.

Getting near finished with the interior re-trim now, but still a bit of work to get all finished out. Got the new Alpine 178BT fitted and the sub is now working ok (thanks to Alan/clf ). Steering wheel controls not playing ball, but I can live without those for the time-being

Only had a cheap camera for the photos

Cheers,

Karl.
That wheel does look great karl.

Am glad the stereo components are up and running now, though I still reckon it is down to the quirk of the auto leads adapter with alpine stereos. This is where you leave the small jack unplugged, test it, and store a radio station, then plug it in. If it is turned on with the Jack plug inserted, without following the storing procedure, it never works, and you have to unplug everything and start again.

Have you tried the tune it app yet? Another feature it has, that used to be found on competition systems in the past is a built.in parametric equalizer. This allows you to add delays into each corner to obtain even more balance and sound stage - I dont bother to be honest, as the xpand feature does a similar job to my failing ears lol. (As a side note to the app, if you do play with it, have the engine running, with the two amps, even though small, you will drain the battery low enough to give issue with starting - how do I know? lol)

My air bag came on yesterday. So today I found out how to fit it on the site. Thank you again all very helpful. It was the connection under the passenger seat.

Today I decided to have a look at my mothballed diesel, and start it up for the second time since 1st July. Joking. Nothing when I pressed the key fob to open the door. Flat as a pancake. Not even a glimmer. So now it is staying on charge for 24 hours to see what has gone back in it. Although it’s only been in the garage, it is filthy, so it looks as though it will be buckets of water and a sponge took round to the garage to give it a spruce up. I was surprised that the brake disc’s are as shiny as when I put it away. My garage has always had a good airflow through it, so that probably helps. I still cannot make my mind up about which car will be kept. At the moment, although I am still spending money bringing the Connie up to scratch, the diesel is still a nicer car to me. Perhaps when everything is done to it, the Connie may top out. Only time will tell.
