I can't say I've noticed any difference between supermarket fuel or premium, I just fill up and enjoy the ride :0)




To be fair I'm no speed demon, and on the occasions I've used BP Ultimate, apart from the extra cost, it's absolutely no different to Tesco finest.


Still whatever makes you feel good.

Yes I do, but not that often - over the years a total of 3 bottles of Forte injector cleaner.

I'm not picky when it comes to fuel. Whatever garage l'm passing whether it's in a supermarket or not. I notice absolutely no difference in performance in any of our cars (all petrol) between brands & premium also makes no difference though l'll put a tankful in now & again but mostly we run on standard fuel which is perfectly fine.
In the refineries all the variously branded tankers fill up from the same taps on the same supply tanks which dispense fuel that has to meet the same regulated standards & the various additives for the 'premium' are added by the particular oil company the fuel is headed for.
The only additive l've used was lead replacement when lead was phased out & l even gave that up after a fairly short while.
My opinion is that many people simply convince themselves they can tell a difference for whatever reason & develop a brand loyalty. In forty three years of more than regular motoring, l've never noticed one.

Additional factor is the effect climate(wet/cold/hot/ etc can have on the IC engine-however I feel the difference when I use Redex with Tesco fuel but I feel the difference when I use a tankful of BP/Esso premium but is that as said just a subjective opinion?? But weather does make a difference. Chris S.

Yes, that's well known. Cool, moist air gives the most favourable running conditions, l believe. Conditions l often get on my morning drive home from work but being as a lot of those journeys are on empty roads, it would be easy to convince yourself that your car is running much better.

I normally use which ever station is cheapest at the time, with an occasional shell fill. That said some of the cars I have owned did improve in pick and mpg with shells finest, none of the Rovers or MG showed any noticeable improvement. I did a charity drive in a Jeep Cherokee back in 2014 (some 2500 miles in 4 ) days. We drove a few hundred miles prior to this run with little or no soot visible. On the first day of the drive we added an additive and the amount of soot "blasting out the exhaust was incredible! The Jeep drove better afterwards on the remaining part of the tour.

I guess you pays your money & you takes your choice. The first video seemed to put the kybosh on the idea that supermarket fuels are substandard to branded ones.

I've been using supermarket fuel for years, especially in my work vans. Never had any problems with it. I have a Shell garage at the end of my road, but never go there due to the inflated prices. Why do they charge more? Because they can as a recognised brand.
