Rover 75 - Special Bodge Edition
Bodge the 1st
If you saw my retrofit thread, I mentioned when I did the vanity sunvisors, I noticed a bit of bodgery. Once I'd removed the trim from under the steering wheel, I found two very special wires snaking their way across from the centre console, towards the a pillar. I then noticed - when I opened the drivers door - some insulated tape pushed past, not through, firstly the rubber seal of the car side door loom, then the door side seal and into the depths of the drivers door. Gathering my thoughts and muttering some very un PG rated words, I checked the passenger side......lo and behold.... More "mystery" wires..... Excuse me, I'll just push past this seal.... Oh and this one too.... I had my suspicions by this point, along with knowing the Harman Kardon loom had been hacked to bits in the boot, so off with the door cards to fit HK looms and speakers. I found this, sad, lonely speaker all on it's ownsome, held in by some random 3" wood screws, tape and a sense of guilt. Not even a front door speaker. No tweeter attached, and the same was found in the drivers door too. Once I pulled the head unit out, it all became clear. As I had wondered, once the HK amp was removed, because the loom behind the centre console wasn't touched, there would have been no sound. So, my mysterious bodger, trying to maximise profit, decided why bother to do things properly and just fed two wires to a speaker in each door, and left it at that. The rear doors had nothing in at all, so I suppose the fact the fronts had any should be counted as a blessing. I've now refitted the entire HK system, all 10 speakers now in and working, replaced the front looms, put everything back to how it should be, and just have the boot end left to tidy up now. I do have one little niggle, but I'll post that on a separate thread. Bodge the 2nd I also refitted powerfolds. Again the eagle eyed may have noticed I put a thread up asking if the mirrors I got were definetly correct, and after testing, I confirmed they did work. However, once fitted, I pressed the button on the switch pack and......nothing. I know the car had them fitted before, I know the looms are correct now, and I know at least one of the mirrors work, so I thought I'd check the switch pack. It does have a powerfold button on, but it is actually just a standard non-powerfold switch pack underneath - the top had been swapped over, so no amount of button pressing would illicit even the slightest movement. I do so enjoy life's little challenges. |

All the switch packs are powerfold ones Chris, the difference is the button and the 'pin' beneath that presses the switch on the board.

May I simply comment that posts 2, 3 & 4 are a good example of how 75 / ZT knowledge is shared (in depth) amongst the experts, ultimately for the benefit of all members.
Thank You. Mike
