Geez, that article is very interesting.
Not sure we are going to run out here in Australia but i can see all these nations that are exporting tons of products using sand are going to be in strife.
Could be a new export product for the Saudi’s after the oil thing stops!!!

Nah, reading that Australia’s ‘selling sand to the Arabs’ (Saudi)! Desert sand is not suitable for construction: too smooth.

Something else for the world leaders to sort out...

In less than ten posts this thread has drifted from the original topic of the price of second hand cars to the worldwide availability of building sand!

I am at a total loss as to the connection between them, and will probably remain so.

As far as I know, sand from the Middle East (and maybe it applies to all sand deserts) is not suitable for cement mixes.
