Default Starting issues this time

Drove the car for about 90 minutes today and pulled over to check an address, switched off for about 2 minutes , turned the key nothing , not turning over at all.
Luckily I was stopped on a hill so rolled down and popped it into 4th and it started.
Got to the destination and parked up.
Tried again , nothing.

Left the car for about 45 minutes, got in started 1st time.
Just driven back for 90 minutes and nothing again.

Is this the classic starter syndrome?
Any advice welcome

Thanks stan

Clean the small connector that goes onto the starter solenoid, if that doesn't cure it then look at fitting a starter solenoid kit

mmm there seems to be an element of something failing hot then working when cooled down - what springs to mind is a failing crank sensor/cam sensor ?

It would still turn over though
also would not have bump started. Post 2 suggestion your likely culprit Stan.

Are you sure - when my crank sensors have failed its characterised by no turning over - as i understand if the ECU does not get a crank signal on start up it will inhibit starting

Hi Martin,

It's the fuel pump relay that the ECM inhibits if it doesn't receive a signal from the crankshaft position sensor. The starter motor can be inhibited by the immobiliser ECU but I don't recall any input from the crankshaft sensor when reading RAVE.

Mine would turn over when the cam sensor failed, and I've not heard any contradiction to that before. I've spoken to Stan and a quick wiggle of the starter spade connection and he is up and running again, I'd say that's pretty conclusive .Lee.
