I couldn't believe how much tree gubbins were packed in there.
Very important you clean the plenum and drain holes, the ECU lives in there and if it gets wet

I've seen this mod mentioned on some eBay listings. It's great that one of the members has done a walkthrough. I'll get on that.

Hey I just noticed your location. Pretty darn close. I'm guessing you could probably recommend a good independent who knows these cars?
My car is far from perfect but I'd like to improve it.

HI David.
Welcome to the club, yes still check the plenums, and no diesels do not have a Shanon tube it as an air duct instead under the engine cover.

This is only removed when you change the air filter below.
2

When was the car last serviced ie all filters the most important being the PCV filter.

Also it would be wise to check that your cooling fan works as it should be doing the demist test.

Another item to check is the intercooler O-rings.

Fencehouses huh? Looks like I'll be paying him a visit.
As for servicing I haven't even had time to look through the history paperwork I got with the car. The guy I bought it from said he used an MG specialist and he also had a TF so that's possibly true, although it can't hurt to put it into someone local to me just to be sure.

I'll drop in either tomorrow or wednesday and have a chat with him. I'd rather someone who knows the cars took care of the model specific jobs as they'll do them far quicker than I can.
Thanks @all for the recommendation.

However as I removed it to see why it wouldn't stay in place I found a huge amount of leaves and other organic material inside. Is this cause for concern and how did it get in there in the first place?
I take it by your description you mean the repeater side indicator behind the front wheels . while i agree its important to clear the plenum drains but you have debris is behind your plastic wheel arch protector .Undo the bottom of this and clean out debris as in long term will cause the bottom of your wing to rot.

As for the indicators they are freely available

Just Search ebay
