this system came about if i remember correctly when the E.U announced that it was petrol vehicles that were causing the emmisions/ climate warming pollution issues.however they subsequently retracted that statement and then blamed the diesels. in between that of course was a hike in petrol ved duties and a fall in diesel ved some without ved at all still running around today. the redress has never been tackled as its easy money and the less polluters still carry the burden. however i think you will see petrol veds still increase but the screw will turn eventually on the diesels ... but not for some time yet because of business usage. the government cant force you off the road but they will try to make it very very expensive but by then i will probably be pushing up the daisies anyway so im not bothered let them get on with it . you know that the poor old motorist has always been the easy target. ....

My previous 75 tourer got a £10 discount for running on LPG. Just had a look at the cost to tax it now and it's only gone up by £160 in 12 years... to £575!

well you are luckier than me. my lpg conversion gave me £5 discount on my kv6 2.5 and thats for almost zero emmisions. so at the end of the day its about money as far as ved is concerned NOT emmisions im sorry to say ...

You've hit the nail on the head there.

Don't think anybody would argue that point.

and just to sharpen the point further. the pass standards for diesel and smoke test could be easily tightened up to help reduce emmisions . however the powers that be are not interested as the revenue would not generate as much as ved. ... unless they increased the price of M.O.T test so again pollution does not take priority here.

VW has turned turtle and have signalled they want the EU to tighten the thumb screws even more on emission standards , They say they cant wait for other legacy manufacturers to play catch up to them to zero emission vehicles. "The EU last month raised its target for cuts in net greenhouse gas emissions to 55% by 2030 from 1990 levels instead of 40%, and Europe’s automakers will find out in July what their contribution on CO2 emissions is expected to be". https://todaynewspost.com/auto-news/...les-in-europe/
