Very true, but it might at least avoid some of the OPEC issues etc....

Please calm down everyone, there is already a solution to the oil shortage/impending or otherwise.
The only reason we dont yet have the alternative is because they dont want you to. Environment my bottom, it has nothing to do with that, we have the technology and we dont even need to change our cars or do anything different... A V8 will always be twice as expensive as a decently economical car |

its about time folks were fined for energy wasteage
Look at all the companies that have thier signs lit up all night for nothing How much lighting is left on under the pretence of security ? Street lighting roads such as motorways is a blatant waste of energy

this is what I'm looking forward to:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...ting-cars.html and bear in mind, this shortage stuff has been going for years. take it with a pinch of salt. sure, it's expensive and will be indefinitely, but I remember learning to drive and saying to my father that I only expected to get a couple of years due to oil disappearing he then told me he had been told exactly the same thing in my position in the '70s it's not a new idea at all. no one should be surprised by this |

Fuel rationing will never happen.....the price will go up to suppress demand.....
It's already happening......people are changing their driving habits and cars to reduce consumption.

I agree with your first point, but not the second two, better visibilty on roads help reduce accidents.

Fuel rationing will happen ! take a look at this next article, its just a matter of economics and around 2 years/3 years away. MORGAN STANLEY STATEMENT analyst at Morgan Stanley, said in the report today. It could drop to 2.5 million barrels a day by end-2012, he said. “Tighter, impossible levels of spare capacity are seen from 2013 to 2015,” the report said. “With demand relatively inelastic in the short run, we reiterate our view that higher prices will be needed to ration demand.”
