Unhappy End Of An Era

That's a good question Jason, and up until an hour ago, we were fully expecting to have a stand for the 6th year running.

However, we have just received the following email from Alison Judge the club co-ordinator for and on behalf of Clarion Events......

Regretfully, we are sorry to inform you that the The Rover 75 & MG ZT Owners Club application for space at this year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show at the NEC has been unsuccessful.

This year we have had an unprecedented level of applications and it is just not possible to include all clubs.

As a ‘Classic’ Motor Show, this year the decision has been taken to reflect this more rigidly in the clubs selected. Most insurance companies regard cars as ‘Classics’ once they are over 20 years old. We feel that the majority of the vehicles represented by your club would not currently fulfil this criteria and hence we are declining your application this year.

If, in the future, you would like to apply again please provide details of how you will be able to meet the ‘Classic’ age criteria. If so we would be happy to hear from you and will consider your on-going interest and support in any future stand application.

Yours sincerely

Alison Judge

To say we are stunned and gutted would be putting it mildly!

We have, since 2010 brought many fine and often unique examples of the Rover 75 and MG ZT to the show and have been complemented for representing the 'Future Classic' status of our remarkable cars. We have brought the organisers much custom through our members taking advantage of the discounted ticket scheme, members who may not have attended the show at all were we not involved or promoting the event on our website.

We had already lined up 2 very worthy examples and were just waiting confirmation of stand size before finalising arrangements, but that all now seems rather academic.

I will be contacting our fellow car club affiliates within the JRC (Joint Rover Clubs) to see if any of them have been bumped off the list now too.

This is a very sad day for us as a club and more so for the many visitors to the show who own one of our cars or aspired to, and were unaware of the existence of such a good support network that we have here for owners.

Ouch that hurts ........ the first time I have the time to help out they pull the plug..
Reading between the lines it says "until we were over subscribed by cars over 20 years old we were happy to take your money, but now we are OK thank you and close the door on your way out"
Cheers Ian

Dissapointing. I was hoping to take my kids as i have good memories from when i was a youngster, and our club stand would have been my main incentive.

Do you think this is there final word on the matter?

Might be interesting seeing which clubs did get a stand.

Reebs,

Paul, it will make interesting read, to find out what " Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show " intend to put on show.
What will be their intention towards other "Marks" and what they consider
" Classic" .

We have responded - to show amazement and just how stunned we are at their logic. I don't have high hopes but we are trying ...

Sounds like they need a bigger venue.

Does the show still share the date with the MPH show? I think that took up a large chunk of the NEC iirc.

Just heard that the Rover BRM club have been told that there application has also been turned. Reason, "The cars are not old enough".
