Default my lads graduation

I went to my sons graduation ceremony at Newcastle civic centre on Friday afternoon, it was without doubt the proudest day of my life.

my son has had to put up with a lot in his life & has managed to overcome a great deal of it (with the exception of having me as a dad) i can safely say he had to work twice as hard as some people (he has aspergers)

I watched him nervously awaiting his turn on the stage, as he walked past the isle i was sitting in i couldnt help myself, i moved out, took the pic, shook his hand & gave him a pat on the back & a hug, then sat back down waiting for the speeches to finish.

when i met up with him again outside the Great Hall, i congratulated him on his Degree(again) & you know what he said?

he told me i was an awesome dad!
i'm not usually one to get emotional, but i had a tear or three after that.

Its not often i have something to crow about, so forgive a thick, proud Geordie his ramblings.
thankyou.

Absolutly fantastic achievement, even more so as your Son has Aspergers. I know exactly what this means and how hard things will be for your Son as my 15 year old Son has the same. Well done

Good on you both!
Him for graduating and you for being an awesome Dad.

I can remember saying something similar to my Dad about a year before he died, he got all emotional too.

thank you all,
it was software design in computing,
i would love to post a photo, but if he knew i had, lets just say i'd be living in the shed for a while
as to being an awesome Dad, i dont think i'm any different to most of us-i've done my best for him, i struggle being comfortable with the label "awesome"
because i think i'm far from it.
but as a woman with great insight once told me, "you're awesome in his eyes & thats all that matters"

lets just hope he remembers that when i'm old & cantankerous
