Wash the screen well and treat it with RainEx. You wont need your wipers then.

No doubt the screen has many years of assorted traffic film and shampoo/wax etc ingrained into it so I would imagine the only way to achieve the finish you're after is to have it professionally polished in a procedure similar to the one used to bring the headlights back to life. I was happy enough to sort out my own lights but don't think I'd have the bottle to attempt the screen in case I ruined it. I believe kits are available though.

Used a 3m product on my screen because of the same thing , spent a day using a drill and mop and it was an improvement but the next day got a crack in it on the m6 so had it replaced , much better and easier than cleaning and only £70

Use wire wool on it dry, but only size 000 or it will scratch

As said, you need to degrease it. To get it really clean (so water beads off it until it get covered by traffic film again ) you can use T-cut or similar.

- Wash the screen with water.
- Where it does not bead is where the grease is.
- Dry the screen off.
- Use T-cut to clean those areas of grease.

Repeat the above steps until it is clean of grease / traffic films.

Alternatively, use a good degreaser to get a quicker effect. I've used Normfest Terpanol - http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/ca...7309&0&cc5_858

The main degreaser is Orange Terpenes - orange rind extract (limonene). Smells like oranges afterwards. Lovely.
Just use it on the glass. Some plastics it does not like.

Clean the side windows the same way. You will have remarkably clear vision in the most horrible rain in rainy winter months, when all the crud gets kicked up on the glass. Water beads off well on well degreased glass.

I personally don't like RainX or similar as they can smear when used with wipers. Better to leave it clean of residues and clean with just water (and then use a microfibre cloth to dry and buff) in between degreases.

Amazing the difference microfibre cloths make to get a really clean screen. Always just chammy'd before. We all learn.

Diluted TFR ( pressure wash detergent) nothing with wax and don't do it on a hot day.

This will remove all grease/grime. I suggest you pre wet the screen and if you get any on the paint wash it off immediately.

I suggest a dilution of about 10 to 1.

As a buy the way did you buy good quality wiper blades?

I used to add a squirt of Fairy liquid into the screenwash.

Try wiping with methylated spirit a couple of times, no need to dry as it will evaporate quite quickly. It works well for me, I do mine three or four times a year and also when I replace the wipers.
