Default Tourer diesel exhaust back box

Back box on me diesel tourer needs changing soon.
What would be best?
Change it myself
Or
Get an exhaust garage to change it.

Prices from a garage are about £150 or so
Prices if I do it myself will be £60-£80
Any member who has come across problem I would love to hear from them.

Its a job that's on my list.
My exhaust is the original so the pipe will have to be cut to remove the back box so car will need to be raised a reasonable height to offer up the replacement to mark position and then to cut the pipe.
The box is a big old lump of metal, back in the day I wouldn't have hesitated to DIY but now the clock has passed 70 I am thinking twice!!
My main priority will be the actual make of the replacement, I am currently favouring Walkers as their spec looks good and they offer 3 yr warranty but not stocked everywhere.

FYI there is a firm in Redditch (on ebay) who offer all sizes of exhaust connecting pipes etc if you have any probs.

i did mine myself, not too bad a job, yes its a heavy old lump and the hangars can be a pain to slide off as theres not a huge amount of room.

just make sure its a tourer box and not a saloon one

Cutting the exhaust is a concern.
Hacksaw or one of those exhaust cutting gadgets that wrap cutting wheels around the pipe on a chain, like a big copper pipe cutter.

Some are manufactured oversize, to specifically slide over the existing cut off pipe. Otherwise a collar will be needed. Cannot remember who what or where, but I bought one when I did mine. I kept the oversize cut off bit to use as collars in future.

Buy new suspension rubbers with it, and use Fairy liquid to fit them

Has anyone used these pipe cutting chains?

Try and get an original backbox. I had a one fitted and the silencer was deeper so could be seen more from the back. Also it was noisier.

It's done.
Got me a pipe cutter and took the plunge.
It's back on Ebay for someone else to use
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Exhau...wAAOSw5~tfNrJH
The car was on ramps and axle stands.
Cutting the pipe took about 5 minutes at the most.
Cut the exhaust box holding bracket with saw and the same with the rubbers.
Bit of grease in the holes of the new rubbers and the slipped on no problem.
Finger and thumb job, honest.
Once the new box was lined up the bolts were tightened.
Started the engine and checked for any leaking.
I couldn't feel anything neither did MOT man.
The whole job was worrying me.
What a waste of worrying.
I'd do it all again if I had to.
So if you are worried about doing the same job then don't.
With the right cutter and back box it's a piece of ----

I recently replaced my 1.8 box with a Klarius. It wasn't the original & removal of it was the most time consuming task. Once it was off fitting the new box was straightforward & done in 15 minutes. Reused the rubbers as l only replaced them last year.

Last year ,on my previous diesel tourer I got a back box off Amazon for £30,,and had it fitted for £30... The fitted did advise me it touched in couple of places but no banging... I,v now replaced that car with another 75 tourer and yeah I should have striped it of before scrapping ..So will have to go down the same route again... I just checked on Amazon and they are selling tourer exhausts now for £39...
