Default Beaten and giving up

I've had it with this car
4 hrs to remove a lower arm and now it's taken me 2 hrs to get the bush on the new arm.
I'm fed up with the rubbish parts being supplied, less than a year since I changed everything on the front end.

I have no energy or strength since my heart attack and getting fed up of chasing knocks and rattles around on a 18 year old car.

Scrappy can come and get it monday morning and shall get something newer with a manufactor that's still going.

Plenty of time on my hands at the moment ( suspended from work for calling the manager a bottom hole)

Rant over
Stan

If you are going to ditch her then put her on here for sale - spares or repair ?

Sorry to hear your travails .

Hi Stan.

Sorry to hear this.

I've been there with the lower arm and it was only from the generosity of a member on here that I finally borrowed the tool that was man enough to do the job .

But mine was, AFAIK, an original, not something put on the year before

Totally get where you're coming from.

But, and I'm sure I'm teaching granny to suck eggs here, be aware that having a current manufacturer doesn't mean reliable and/or sensibly priced parts.

Been there and done that too. Duff handbrake on a Passat - about £500 - £600 'cus they are electronic and the only way to sort is a new caliper plus the cost of dialing them in with the diagnostics (VW's version of T4). And they tend to pack up locked on so you're stranded.

My neighbour has a 2019 Focus which has just destroyed its clutch.....

Maybe someone on here might like yours .

Good luck with your new car, whatever it might be.

Don't be a stranger.

I have been there several times! The problem is that I keep coming back to a 75.

Have a good rest, think about it and put off the decision until you are 100% sure. I was on the point of going "modern" and spent hours on the net researching an alternative.

Most of the "modern" stuff have design "faults" often described as "features" which scare me to death and would put me 100% in the hands of dealers "technicians". If I see something I fancy, I just put in the model name and common faults into google search and the nightmares continue or even get worse and more expensive!

There are some "brilliant" pieces of design for lightness and economy, supposedly to save the planet but they only seem to last a few years or just out of warranty (some not even that). How can that save the planet?

Have a good meal, a rest and a think, then see where you go from there.

My car (22 years old), has never failed a test and I often spend months preparing it but I have nothing else to do these days. It has been a struggle at times (agree with you on those pesky arms) but I have persevered and come through.

Best of luck with whatever you do. Mike

Stan,
when did you have your HA?
After I had mine I could not even keep pace with the self drive lawn mower.
Move on a while, may be a couple of years and I was running 3 miles.

Tread mill was worth its weight in gold, I would say that was the major influence in my recovery so good luck to you.

Brother, I feel your pain... and I did the boss thing - ahem - more than once.

Mercifully retired now, no more bosses ever again. Still spent about a man-week trying to fix the f'ing wing mirror though... I don't know anybody else who would keep on and on at it like I do

Why not work out the costs, then pay one of our skilled colleagues to do the work? I am going through this dilemma at the moment.
