Dont really understand what you are saying but just an idea look under the throttle body and locate the big metal coolant pipe in the pipe there is a bleed bolt check wires above that have not rubbed and shorted through on bolt and check fuses for engine management in under bonnet fuse box, if you think faulty plug I'm sure a member on her will donate a good used plug

Unfortunately continuity tests on the crankshaft sensor won't help you because it's a Hall Effect device containing electronics. The best you can do is to release the connector from the sensor and check that each terminal from the connector to the ECM reads zero ohms. That will tell you whether you have wiring damage. I believe that on your 1.8T this loom passes close to the exhaust so that's a likely scenario. Simon
