It's worth saving for those c pillar badges alone!
What a lovely looking car. And you can't get much for 500 quid these days. Even if it needs more extensive work, it can still make sense financially. |

Just back from a viewing and test drive.
It drove very well, no knocks or horrible little rattles. Interior is a bit neglected, needs a good clean. The leather is cracked, but the dealer said I could get some stuff off E-Bay to remedy that. Nice headrests with Rover Longship logo's/emblems. The bodywork is generally good but both front wings are on the rusty side low down and could do with a bit of attention. The sills on one side were done last year. I forgot to inspect the head lining. should have done considering what I have read on other threads. My insurance company wants £128 extra premium to add it to my current policy which expires on 25th September. I feel that is a bit steep for three and a bit months, bearing in mind that I am the only person on it and I can only drive one car at a time. The dealer suggest that I take their offer and shop around for a two car policy nearer the time. Any suggestions on who I could turn to would be appreciated. He suggested Churchill. I met the previous owners. They have a pile of paperwork which they will leave with the dealer in due course. it was only because I asked that they said they had old bills etc. Otherwise they would have finished up in the bin. The C pillar badges are a bit on the faded side. The ones on my 75 are mint in comparison. I bought them on E-Bay. I'll decide in the next hour or so. It looks and sounds like an honest car Paul and the dealer isn't asking a lot for it. As for insurance, you'll often do better with a different insurer to take advantage of their "new business" discount. There are good prices available via the MoneySupermarket website.

Many thanks to those who responded.
I was expecting a 50/50 split between those who thought I should buy and and others telling me not to touch it with a barge pole! Its quite clear that those who did respond saw this as a pretty rare car, and I hope to have it in tip top nick by the time its due for its next MOT in late August, perhaps on display at the Northumberland Classic Vehicle Gathering at Corbridge on Sunday 15th August. |

I'm saving a rare diesel auto ZT right now. its a 53 plate so hardly the most desirable but it has to be done.
Your T plate would be top of my list for savers. Looking forward to seeing it some day.

Thanks for that victorgte. Nice comment.
Apart from the sills on one side only its all cosmetic. A professional interior valet is on the list, there's a valeting business just a couple of units from MGR Johns place, and he will be carrying out the welding and any other non cosmetic repairs. I hope to display it at the Mark Woodward Classic Events at Corbridge on Sunday 15th August and Ripon Racecourse on Sunday 28th August. Both a bit far from you I'm afraid. What a mess!
A local scrappy offered the dealer £250 but was declined on the grounds that it was too good to scrap, and that the engine was worth that alone. I paid £600 for my current 75 and about £400 to get it through its MOT. It too was a part ex, but was in far better cosmetic nick to the one I bought today. Both dealers were up front with me about work that needed doing, but I dare say that there are still some Arthur Daley's lurking in the trade. Last edited by Annfield-East; 14th June 2021 at 18:56..
