Just over 40ml, or 1.4 fl oz, remains in old fluid in the Modulator/Pump Assembly and having the engine running doesn't push it out either.

To operate the valves in the modulator, it needs to detect a fault, so by spinning the wheel connected to the circuit you are bleeding with the ignition turned on may be seen as a fault in that circuit on the 600 which if I remember correctly is a WABCO system.

This isn't the case on the R40 where the ABS ECU will see the other three wheels as being static and do nothing

Default Gravity Bleed

I have just had to replace the rear O/S brake Caliper due to it being seized.

I have now started the "Gravity" bleed. I have allowed a fair amount of fluid to run thru it but am still getting a large number of bubbles still coming out, Far more than I would have thought for a rear caliper. any Ideas suggestion??

Hi

I would imagine it will definitely take a while as the gravity-powered flow is really really slow.

If you have replaced a caliper (which would be empty of any fluid on install) then the bleeding also has that air to push through .... which isn't the case with a "simple" flush through with no / very little air.

Was the hose "clamped off" while you were swapping the caliper over?

I hope it clears out ok .... or otherwise you may need to incorporate one of the other methods mentioned where you use pressure to push the fluid into/through the master cylinder.

I'm sure someone with more experience/tips will be along later.

In the meantime ... good luck

John

As an afterthought .... try bleeding the N/S rear caliper first, then do the O/S again?

All the best.

Hi Yes, I did clamp the hose off. I have now run over 500ml of fluid and still getting bubbles

I will try the N/S/F but not sure what that will do as it has not been interfered with..

Hi again

N/S/R .... that's the one normally bled first in the sequence. Just a thought.

Although I agree .... as you had clamped off the hose, other parts of the system should not have been affected.

So, here's another silly one, are the bubbles appearing on the "upward" part of the clear tube as it leaves the nipple, or only on the downward part as it drops down to the collecting jar? Latter not being an issue (one of my pictures below)

And another. Try doing up the nipple and see how the pedal feels.

I'm trying ..... (very trying.... )

Perhaps you will need one of those "pressure solutions" in the end.

All the best
John

well after over two hours, and over 500ml of fluid and still see bubbles, In desperation I got er indoors to push the pedal down for me, A great rush of bubbles on the first push, another load on the second push, Third push no bubbles same with the fourth and fifth So I assume the air has been cleared. Went for a test drive and all seems fine Oh and I couldnt see any bubbles in the tube as it is black
