Tailgate fix without welding
Well ... My tailgate gas strut went ping and the retaining plate as well as what was left of the spigot went into the deepest recesses of the car.
First thoughts were to get someone to weld one on but then again ... why would I want something so easy? So a few Ebay items later and it's done. Okay, not the prettiest job but it certainly works. Photos in no real order here: https://goo.gl/photos/AhnwEYZj9E8RudBB8 Note the nuts are nylock and all fixings are stainless steel. I'll be cleaning it up later. The cable tie is so that I didn't lose this B%^&% into the bowels of my car again. What I would do differently: Spot the problem BEFORE it happened.

How long are you expecting this "fix" to last David
I suspect it won't be long before the new plate is torn through the rusty rear pillar. I think you should have gone with the original idea of having the grotty mush cut out, and replaced with some new metal Still, I suppose it will provide a temporary fix.......... Brian |

There's no rust ... that was me trying to rescue it with JB Weld and failing I'll angle grind it nicely later and fill and paint.

Couldn't advertise that as a 'minter' that's for sure.

ROFL ... you haven't seen the rest of it! I bought it a year ago as a throwaway band bus for £600.00 ... decided to keep it on the road because it's such a lovely car but now has 210,000 miles on it
