My fuel gauge started playing up this morning with totally random readings! I know that there is over 2/3 tank of fuel in there but when starting today, it showed full and then quickly settled to the correct level! After a 3 mile trip to the supermarket and coming back to it after a couple of hours in the car park, it only showed 1/4 tank and is now sitting between 1/4 and 1/2.
Any ideas??

I think there is a good info on this issue on the "How to" section.

Also on "Technical" - worth trying a search.

Already done a quick search and considered the sender / float unit might be faulty but i would have thought that if it was duff it would read either empty or full - mine seems completely random.....?

DONE: HAD A CRAZY IDEA THAT I HAD TO GET RID OF MY MG ZTT DUE TO NOT HAVING A DRIVE AND HAVING TO PARK ON A BUSY STREET WITH A VIEW TO GETTING ANOTHER ONE AT A LATER DATE WHEN I HAVE A DRIVE.

ENDED UP REALISING IT REALLY ISN'T PRACTICAL NOT HAVING A CAR TO GET AROUND AND I NOW OWN A VW EOS 3.2 V6 INDIVIDUAL (1 OF 20 REMAINING IN THE UK WITH THAT ENGINE AND TRIM COMBO) EVEN THOUGH I STILL LIVE ON A BUSY ROAD WITHOUT A DRIVE

Rear heat shield fell off ... making an awful clang on the top of the exhaust for 400 miles. Sadly it has completely broken off the front bit, so no amount of penny washers could fix that

Opened the ZTs bonnet today to discover the power steering pump had chucked fluid all over the engine bay. Luckily I had a good spare waiting.

I also changed the alternator whilst at it due to bearing noise.

Unfortunately I checked the state of the timing belts, I've found cracks on the belt. So that is now an urgent job. Thankfully I have the parts ready to go on.

You could always fix it

Depending on where the car is at the moment, a call to Big Russ or Cossie Dunc could be on the cards

Thanks Marinabrian - i should have expected that response!! ;-)
It's a 75 CDT and it's back in Derbyshire at the moment. RAC guy got it fired up with easy start but won't restart on it's own. He suspected low fuel pressure but the fault code (which won't clear) states a problem with the MAP sensor.
Worth a T4 session or just take my chances at the local diesel specialist? (if they are still in business). Who would be my local T4 guy? I'm in North Derbyshire.... and roughly how much would a T4 diagnostic cost?

Default Auto Gearbox

Just got my ZTT back after having a replacement gearbox fitted and new copper brake pipes.
The main shaft in the gearbox sheared and punched a hole in the casing.
