Temporary handbrake fix?
Hi all, I'm sure I read on here about using a bolt and washers instead of the little pins that hold the shoes in, when the backplate has rusted? I can't see anything in the how to section, so does anyone know of the post I mean, or have any hints as to what size bolt it needs and how exactly you have to do it?

I have just replaced both back plates as mine were very rusty. Cost just short of £50 each from Rimmers but I noticed DMGS sells them complete with new hand brake attached, about £150 complete for two sets. Wish I had seen that before I went to Rimmers.

I think I'll need to replace my backplates soon, but I can't afford £50 for a bit of pressed plate at the moment, so it'll have to wait. I did see the complete sets, but not sure if that works out any better price wise? |

I did a quick one, epoxy glued the nut at the back of it to stop it undoing.

The spring seems to only be there to keep the pin in place, not necessarily to hold the brake shoe in place. So I tightened this so that it wasn't tight and was slightly loose and checked the movement on the shoes before epoxying the nut in place. Hasn't let me down (unlike the pin )

Ok thanks, hoping to get around to having a go this weekend, getting a bit fed up of the handbrake pointing at the roof and only working on 1 side!

Sir might need a handbrake compensator as well! These are available from justseventyfives, a trader who specialises in breaking cars and is now supplying modified compensators at £10.50 each.
