Default Mot

After fighting with myself, tools, angle grinder and my Rover's suspension I eventually changed the wishbone ... sure, I had to get a breakers yard hub which the scary man with the huge angle grinder had unhelpfully supplied WITH the driveshaft.

... I put it through the MOT.

I got back to the test centre slightly before it was discharged and started talking to the tester ... he was umming and ahhing over the condition of the corroded sill jacking points but decided to pass it.

Anyone know of localish (Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire/Cambridgshire) decent welders and how much people have charged in the past?

Well done in getting the MOT after the work. I'm sure someone will be along soon with a suggestion for you.

Not really close to you but if you get stuck, first class work! £100 a side.

Mine unfortunately failed on corroded sills, i think the drivers side front was damaged by our local tyre fitter (it had been previously patched by former owner) with a further area behind rear jacking point with a small hole. Other side rear had corrosion same place but no hole. I had great difficulty finding a welder to sort it, none of our local garages do welding anymore (!!) but I found a guy who 'does welding in his spare time' for the local garages and he sorted it out for just £100. I havent seen the work yet as he finished it today but MOT is next Tuesday so fingers crossed!

I'm convinced that the large "cup" type heavy duty jacks, miss the jacking pads (go around rather than on) and damage the surrounding sill, giving rise to paint loss and corrosion. They need to have the rubber (ice hockey puck) type of pad to avoid the damage. I keep rubber pads in my boot for when doing wheels/tyres.
