Get yourself an SGS 3 ton jack. It is supplied with a thick rubber cover that sits on the saddle of the lifting arm. It lifts the car up high enough at the back to get axle stands under the jacking points both sides. 525 cm lift.

I use this type of jack too, also worth mentioning to those who may not know, when jacking one end up, the other end needs to creep slightly as the jacking end elevates. Failure to adopt this opens up risks of the jacking end moving, perhaps enough for the mass to become jacked on something other than the intended structure. So parking brake off, and the use of chocks is beneficial .

is it not the jack that is supposed to be able to creep? The grounded end rotating around the circumference of the tyre, and the body of the jack pulling itself under the car as it lifts. My fear was always the potential momentum pulling the car off the jack.

Well ... I was due to go to Germany the next day, so I left it with them trying to get the local mechanics to sort it out. On my return I'm expecting to have free tyres and a working car along with an oil change and oil that (hopefully) is inside the car. He didn't put it anywhere near the front jacking point, so no slipping otherwise (as some have said) it would have hit the radiator instead. In fact I very rarely (unless I HAVE to) jack up the whole front from that point.

Strangely I was less upset than the guy who did it *shrugs* not much you can do retrospectively.

So I took it to my local tyre experts to swap out the two fronts.

The guy decided to lift the car from the front and I noticed the trolley jack was almost totally under the car. I informed him that I thought the jacking point was closer to the front, he checked and said, no it was there.

So ... minding my own business I watched as my car slowly lifted into the air and then suddenly came down with a river of oil.

Yup, he'd been jacking the car up using the sump which strangely isn't strong enough to hold a car ... who would have thought?
You're going nowhere,
Tragedy!

Sounds like total muppetry. Did the jack puncture the sump?

Hehehe

Yep, well, actually I didn't look ... I was too busy seething inside and was very "Okay, sort it and I'll pick it up fixed".

Just had a text that it's ready, so I'll be picking it up when I get back to Blighty.

Just need to find a welder who will charge me a lot less than £600.00 to do the sills now

I'll second that, and there's a few more on the forum that will agree too.
