Just updating an old thread to say that after some delay the new backplates/shoes/adjusters from DMGRS were fitted and work an absolute treat, the car now holds on two clicks just like it did when I first had the modified compensator fitted.
The old backplates were fairly new and fine, but the EuroCarParts own brand shoes that were severely lacking and in my opinion are not fit for purpose. Amazing what a difference having the correct kit makes... can highly recommend these, although in hindsight I may have got away with just fitting new MG Rover shoes... https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/r75...0290-smn000140 |

I would say 9 out of 10 if back plates are fine, and shoe pad wear looks to be ok, it will be the expanders they get stuck with all the dust within the drum, another good thing to do once a year is remove the disc drum and clean out all dust around the shoes and expander, check and clean the inside of the drum, glad to hear you are sorted though.

I can highly recommend the DMGRS handbrake “kit”. My car had a shocking handbrake prior to me fitting this little lot, thanks to the original shoes delaminating presumably down to lack of use. Not too complex to fit and set up, either!

Thanks for the recommendations, chaps - I should have made it more clear in the description that we buy these made up directly from MG, so they're Genuine MG shoes fitted.
They're an absolutely perfect (and I mean perfect) shape for the internal drum of our rear brake discs - my own ZT-T would lock the rear wheels on 3 clicks of the handbrake at 10MPH. Unfortunately due to difficulty sourcing these (the OE manufacturer last did a production run in 2016) the price has risen slightly, but the kit is available here: https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/...0290-smn000140
