Well done Predictive text was definitely not programmed by someone with mechanical knowledge.

After going to all that trouble I would be inclined to replace the arms as well.
It would be a kick in the cherries to reassemble everything and take it in for an alignment only to find a bad ball joint or two and have to do it again.

The car may only have done a few hundred miles since the mot and feeling them there does not seem to be any play, the rubbers look new.

I think I'll take the chance and refit them but that you for the heads up

Well, it got 4 out of 7 letters correct (but not in the right order ) so not a bad result really.

A bit like Eric Morecambe’s piano playing then!

What would you replace them with?

I've just replaced one arm on my car, and the arm I removed was the original, as is the one still fitted to the other side.

I suspect although I've fitted a good quality aftermarket replacement arm made by the same people who made the originals (TRW) I strongly suspect it won't last as long as the original.

I understand where you are coming from though, but it's simply not necessary to replace for replacements sake

That's a point Brian. High quality 20 year old parts vs possibly low quality replacement parts. Bit of a toss-up isn't it.
Might also depend on how much force is required to re and re the ball-joint tapers from the subframe. If a lump hammer is used that may cause issues.
Wouldn't it be nice to have confidence in new parts!

Ian. I can not see the logic of taking the old bushes off and relocating them on a new subframe. What wad the reason to change the original subframe? I imagine to alleviate any problems with wear (rust). Much easier to spend a few more shekels on new ones, than have the problem of changing them further down the line.

Sorry mate I think our wires have been crossed or dyslexia has gotten the better of me, if it did I apologise.
The bushes were duff. I removed the sub frame so I could replace them.
The sub frame was rusty in places and I did not think I would do a good enough job of cleaning it back to metal, so got a new sub frame.
I removed the arms from the old sub frame, removed the bushes, fitted new bushes and fitted the arms and new bushes to the new sub frame.

If I've led people down the garden path I'm very sorry I did not mean too.

Were new bushes not already fitted to the sub frame ?
