Default Diesel producing a lot of soot

Hi guys

My diesel is producing an awful lot of soot from the exhaust when I'm driving. Not so much when just driving along at slow speeds or constant 60-70mph on motorway, but the moment I give it a bit of oomph, there is a lot of soot that comes out the back. Can anyone tell me why this is and how I can prevent this? My friend also has a diesel 75 and his is as clean as a whistle. No soot at all. Many thanks. Ravinder

Could be MAF sensor, egr valve blocked, or ronbox fitted and overfieling. To name but a few... Also check pcv filter

Rav, my previous diesel 75 tourer did this when I got it. I changed the PCV and cleaned out the EGR and the car was transformed. Easy and relatively quick to do.

Going a bit old-school here.
Check your airfilter isn't blocked.....

I have a 160 remap.

I have an EGR bypass.

PCV was changed back in June when I bought the car. Also new filter. It has had a full service.

Would this still effect it?

MAF sensor, you say?

I know it may be stating the obvious. But I had this (exactly) when I bought the car and it got worse. I checked the Intercooler O Rings only to find I had a great big split in the intercooler pipe. I fitted a new pipe (along with O rings and it stopped immediately.

I think it's probably intercooler hose or the rings. A duff MAF usually over fuel gives your unburnt fuel smell but doesn't give you soot . Check your intercooler hose connections specially the elbow where the O Rings are . Or check the EGR bybass connections . I may be wrong .

My cars doing the same at the moment and it produces clouds when I let down the accelerator for over takes. Its black smoke and lots of it. I've done all the mods apart from a new inter cooler hose and the MAF is in spec (as far as I know). someone in another thread mentioned it could be down to over fuelling, but I think I've got a dodgy injector so its being under fuelled as the chugging from last year has retuned with the car threatening to stall at idle! Im going to check the filters at the weekend but don't think it is down to that (they were only changed three months ago)

Many thanks. I can't say I've noticed any smell of fuel and the car pulls well. It's not sluggish or anything like that. I'll check the egr bypass and hose, thanks. Can a blowy back box cause it? My exhaust is blooms a little as the back box has a hole in it. Thanks.
