Tyre fitters ... Arrrgghhh

So while driving to Blackpool and back fully loaded up with a PA and three hairy Bee Gees impersonators, I noticed my CV Joint was clanking, very loudly when turning corners under power.

So while out I ordered a new CV joint which arrived by the time I got back (how cool is that) and changed it this morning with no major issues other than it had mullered the tyre driving 650 miles with it.

So I took it to my local tyre experts to swap out the two fronts.

The guy decided to lift the car from the front and I noticed the trolley jack was almost totally under the car. I informed him that I thought the jacking point was closer to the front, he checked and said, no it was there.

So ... minding my own business I watched as my car slowly lifted into the air and then suddenly came down with a river of oil.

Yup, he'd been jacking the car up using the sump which strangely isn't strong enough to hold a car ... who would have thought?

On the bright side , at least you got a free oil change but it does make you wonder what he was looking at under there.

Even my missus would know the difference between a sump and a jacking point

HI David.
I presume they are going to repair the damage, maybe also let you have the tyres for free for the inconvenience, have they or you checked it as not done anymore damage inside the sump.

Everyone loves an 'expert' eh! You would think as this kind of work is his bread 'n' butter he would know exactly what he's doing? clearly not.

Even the jacking point can be dodgy if it slips up the radiator!

You can't leave it there.
You have to tell us at least what they offered to do about it.

If as you say, it must have slipped of the saddle of the jack, where did the saddle hit in the engine bay when it slipped off? Have a very good look before you get into the compensation conversation. It could be an expensive slip for them.

Informing that it was closer to the front was correct so he can not say you did not warn him.

Used carefully and correctly the front jacking point is safe, I also use a little block of wood never metal to metal.
