Just moved on to Season 9 - end of the Rover era, sadly, and Barnaby's driving around in a Mondeo, disguised as a Jaguar

Very nice to see. I have just finished binge watching series 7 over Christmas so just about to start on series 8. The good lady bought me series 1 and 2 for Xmas so now have all the Rover mounted ones on DVD :-)
Very popular in Australia apparently. |

Hi @david75,
I watched midsomers last night with your car in. Always liked the black facelift used in the program. I was wondering if it's whereabouts and was so glad to read your story. I grew up watching the repeats of midsomer murders as a teenager and to be honest, your car made me want one of my own when I could finally afford it. Fast forward about 10 years and here is mine, which is something of a resto job as well. If you ever find yourself at the East Kirkby Rover Really in July, I would love to see your car and have a chat with you. All the best. Ash Sent from my moto g(8) using Tapatalk |

Update for January to December 2023
3434 miles covered. Mileage at end of December 2023: 184997 Mostly fairly local, plus longer trips to the Midlands, and around Norfolk and Suffolk. A few things to report: February: I had previously replaced the under-seat connectors to fix an air-bag light problem. This appeared to do the trick and passed the MOT in 2022, but subsequently the light started to come on again intermittently. Further investigation pointed to driver’s seat wiring (which I had fixed previously, but, as it turns out, perhaps not perfectly). Anyway, it is now all re-done, and there have been no further problems. March: I was on my way northwards on the M1, and when I arrived near Leicester for a planned stop-over, I heard a loud grinding noise from the left rear wheel, which was very hot, and turned out to be a seized calliper. I called the RAC who eventually arrived and were very helpful in investigating the problem, and quickly realising that it could not be fixed there and then. So the decision was made to Recover me and the car back home, about 140 miles. There was then a very long delay while they attempted to find a recovery company (it was a Sunday), and eventually they decided to arrange a hire car for me to drive home and my car would be taken separately and delivered to me at home the next day. So apart from the time it all took waiting for it to be organised, the RAC service was all as it should be and I was quite happy – especially when the car arrived the next day all safe and unscathed. Subsequently, I had both rear callipers replaced plus pads, discs, bearings, handbrake drums & pads. Maybe not all strictly needed, but best to be sure and future-proof for a good while. Totally unconnected with the above, the car had developed an “automatic bonnet closure” feature if the wind was blowing in the wrong direction. So I replaced both bonnet struts because the original ones had become very weedy. All good now. August: Driving along one day and had a sudden loss of coolant catastrophe. Fortunately was able to pull over literally in seconds. Turned out to be the water pump had seized and disintegrated. (The pump had been replaced when the belts were last done, 2018, before my ownership. So it seems like a premature failure, but hey-ho.) Although I was only half a mile from home, the RAC (who came within an hour) took me and the car straight to my usual garage, who kindly stayed open late to receive the patient. It made sense to go the whole hog and get the belts done at the same time (would have been due in 2024 anyway), so its now all good for a few years. Also in August, visited the Ace Café with the MGR SouthEast group (mainly from Essex and surroundings), which was a nice day out. Apart from a brake light bulb and some wiper blades, that’s about it. Still looking for a proper sized meteor alloy wheel to use instead of the space-saver spare. Midsomer fans might see the car if you happen to be watching the repeats of Series 8, and all being well I plan to be at Gaydon in April.
