Default Photo recovery - Samsung Galaxy S2

Gill has accidentally deleted all of the photos on her Android phone

She thought she was deleting one but it was the whole album.....

Apparently this is not an unusual occurrence, as there's lots of posts about this on the 'net. However, we are struggling to find suitable recovery software, as there's loads out there and many that we've never heard of which could well be dodgy!

We've just tried Recuva which I have used before, but it's not "seeing" the phone as a location, although it's showing in "My Computer"

Has anyone had this sort of issue and/or can offer any good advice?!

Cheers!

Does she use Google+ at all? If so there is a chance it may have been automatically backing up the photo's.

If not then I'm afraid it's pretty unlikely that any recovery software will be able to retrieve the pictures from the internal memory on an S2, you're best hope would be to send the phone to a specialist company but even if they can do anything it certainly wouldn't be cheap.

Pretty sure that she isn't signed up to Google+

Sounding a bit dire then?

I am pretty sure that the deletion just removes the tags and the images are still there, meaning that they can be recovered using software.
It is important not to overwrite the space though, until they have been re-instated, though.

Are the pictures being saved to the internal memory or to the SD card?

I have successfully recovered deleted images from a Canon camera, but I read them straight from the SD card.

Phone memory annoyingly!

Gill has found a utility (Dr.Fone?) which looks to be finding a good lot of stuff, although some are irretrievable. Our guess/hope is that these might be older deletions? Of course, it might get to the end of it's scan and then say "you need to upgrade to the paid version to actually retrieve these files".....

If on an SD Card, then you can get a programme for PC called Don't Panic may have to look around for it as not a new programmed... recovers deleted files from cards.

Thanks for the replies folks - still doing "something" with the Dr-Fone program, but not counting any chickens yet!

Well, never saw that coming...

Dr.Fone has found nearly everything, but to recover them, we need to buy the full version. 40 quid thank you very much

Did you manage to get them back? My only concern with some recovery software that claims to have found them and offers to give you access for a fee is that it might have not really found anything or just a mass of jumbled random data. We had a customer who tried to recover some files and paid up only to get back a lot of random junk. Sadly because the "recovery" software had caused so many read / write operations on the disk it was beyond professional recovery as well.

If it's the SD card, do NOT use the phone and get it in a PC with a memory card reader and you have a chance. If it's internal memory - not looking good.

When you delete a file, the "label" that says where the file is goes, but the file remains - but anything can write over the top. If you keep using the device, and it puts anything in the same space - bye bye data.
