I am having the same problem with my 2000 2l V6. I managed now to open the door from the inside but if you use the outside handle it opens once and then you cannot close the door again until you reach in and pull the outer door rod another half inch and then it clicks back up into place and the door works again. I assume that you can screw the rod (at B in the photo) to make the mechanism pull that little bit further and then it will reach the reset point? A bit like amending the float in a toilet?
Anyone know if this can be done in situ or do I need to remove all the components as above? Last edited by Ragnarok; 25th May 2013 at 16:21.. Reason: Part B on the photo |

Bought a driver's side mechanism from fleabay and replaced it on Saturday but the outside door handle didn't open the door until I relocated the Exterior Handle Rod Release so that there was only a few threads poking out of "B" as shown in that great explanation earlier in this thread. I'm going to have a go at the passenger side just as soon as some skin grows back on my hands!
Excellent and very helpful thread - thanks very much.
