Hi Alan - as above, I have tried both versions, and now two different laptops...

The VAG KKL lead looks very much the same as I and many, many others use except mine is blue.

When I bought the USB lead back in November last year I got a mini cd disc with drivers (I think) but couldn't run/open anything. So googled KKL drivers and got to this place:
http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/s...ble-on-windows and proceeded (blindly) to try it, although any programme that says "you must" usually gets ignored. Don't know really if it helped, as I said I didn't try and assign ports or anything, but Toaf does work on my Win10 machine.

Good luck with the Windows error messages - what were you saying about Mac stuff?

Regards

There were actually three versions roger I cannot recall the version numbers, but when I get back home I will check it out (unless someone beats me to it ) . The middle version was the one that did the keys, but was quickly superseded when this was discovered lol (they all remained available though). The last version if I recall didn't do a terrible lot on my car (I didn't delve into them that much, but certainly didn't do live data - which is what I wanted at the time.

Ah, OK... well, everybody says v...43 is the key one. But in any case, neither version I've got will even talk to the car, so we're not even at the stage of worrying about keys yet

I have just checked this out, and 43 is indeed the middle one (sorry ). If I recall it doesnt have the injector/live data, which is what I wanted to see at the time, so took it off and put on 50, (v40 caused an issue for me just plugging it in, and looking around, so never put it back on).

You could try my laptop and lead if you wanted, they connect to my car ok, and can put v43 back on. I dont think I would get a chance to bring it to you til the weekend, but if you could get to Carrick before then, you are more than welcome to take it away and try it (you can do it at my house if you wanted, but I would worry if something went wrong lol). I would be home tomorrow around 8pm, all day thursday and probably about 8 on Friday. During the day tomorrow and Friday I could have it with me at the Titanic Quarter.

Default Well well well...

So Alan (clf) kindly lent me his laptop and cable… I decided to just try the cable first, on my laptop. About 2 minutes later, I now have a new key – remotely locking, unlocking, and starting the car.

So all the grief was down to my cable being unsuitable

I try to see things like this as learning experiences

I want to express my great gratitude to all those who helped me – I wouldn't have had a hope in {naughty word} without you.

Arctic & clf for practicing the “givology” that Arctic preaches; Vitesse and Marinabrian (RIP) for lots of invaluable advice
