Hhmmm, now this is interesting. I decided to put the known good board (from the original key) into the better-nick new key, and keep the rest as a spare which could probably be kicked into life if I ever lost the one I’m using.

And… the problem stayed with the new case, not with the suspect board – I’m wondering now if the newer case has worn in a way which lets it flex or something, stopping the buttons pressing the microswitches hard enough? Must admit I don’t find that explanation convincing, but not sure what else to think

Just try using the remote boards on their own without fitting them and press the switches with your finger nail. Should show you if they're working or not.

Of course, now both keys are working fine INSIDE their cases. There is, as you know, nothing worse than an intermittent fault...

But I'm going to carry a screwdriver around from now on, and lever the case open to try that next time it coughs...

Take an old M6 bolt, heat the end up over the stove, then melt the post of the unlock button inside the reproduction case slightly

I've found on some non Valeo cases that the unlock button post on the case actually presses the tactile switch on the PCB permanently, making the PCB inoperative.

Brian

What's a "tactile switch" Brian? Do you mean the little microswitch?

To save you waiting, Brian's talking about a pressure switch or touch switch. Press it and it's on, release and it's off.

Brian's got a source for genuine Valeo cases but wisely keeping that a secret. Had a lot of trouble sourcing good ones myself, best so far being from http://carkeyfob.co.uk/index.php?rou...ory&path=20_74 Good fit, feel to the buttons, grip for the remote boards and work well.

Regards

Cheers only thing I wondered was, if the switch is held on, wouldn't the little red light stay on too?

Anyway, happy to replace the case. Can I actually move my blade to one of those, and save taking out a 2nd mortgage with Timpson's to get another one cut?
