A real mash up of a car, this. I think it was on about it's sixth owner 5 or 6 years ago when I encountered it at an MG Rover specialist. The chap who owned it didn't realise what he had bought with its associated problems. He soon got rid! As it's chassis number would suggest, a very early prototype and a hacked up, early, 190 chassis. A piece of history, though.

They all have hacked up 190 chassis

with the additional bit of grinding and welding.

No finesse to the grinding and welding on this one, though!

The bits that stuck in my mind were the crudely cut hole inside the glovebox to accommodate which ever part it was and the gearstick and surround that couldn't be mounted flush with the centre console. Typical prototype stuff.

the bonnet is very low at the front and makes the mk2 wing gap look worse. The front bumper looks a different colour too. (mine does too - even though I have been assured it has never been painted or crashed). the front end just looks 'wrong' to me ..... and I dont mean mk2 on a mk1 .

Just had a quick look at the advert and thankfully it's not been fully "Mk 2'd" as they thankfully haven't changed the boot lid!

So with a couple of Mk 1 bumpers and headlights, not the hardest job to revert to it's former glory.

It's date of registration would probably suggest that it was probably found under a cover in a corner somewhere in the factory by the administrators and they thought that being a V8, they could re-coup some money, so banged some MK 2 bumpers and lights on it and registered it and then banged it through a a Specialist auction.

A bit of MGR history, but as others have suggested, as the car is a prototype, it could be a whole world of pain to run even on a weekend only basis and with that in mind, I would suggest as you can pick up nice low mileage cars that actually work for the same kind of money, that the seller is being "ambitious" with his asking price!

An interesting Museum piece (if returned to it's original spec) but that's about as far as it goes!

So bullet mirrors, mk2 front and rear bumpers a real mish mesh but no doubt someone will buy it. Xenon's too plus sunroof.

If they do I hope they know what they are buying! To put it mildly prototypes aren't everyday drivers! If it ever gets electrical problems good luck, the wiring in the prototypes was in the "make it up as you go along" category and a T4 is no use what so ever.

If I remember correctly, the paint job on the bumpers wasn't that great either. The car is Zircon Silver, so the bumpers have been repainted from whatever colour they were as Zircon was not available on facelift cars.

As it was based on an early 190, the best thing about the car were all the PPD bits on it, particularly the interior.
