Default Heater trouble advice please

I have a 2003 2.5 connie. The thermostat housing starting leaking coolant so was replaced. Ever since the heater only blows our tepid warm air. Before the thermostat replacement the heating worked fine.
I have no coolant loss and the engine runs at it’s normal temperature.
Could it be 17 years of gunge in the heater matrix? It’s been suggested that it could be the head gaskets although the engine still pulls like a train and the oil cap is clean.
Just wondering if any members have experienced similar and how they sorted it.

Sounds like an airlock to me, if it was ok before dropping the coolant then it should be the same once refilled.

Have a search on here for the refill procedure.
