Norbar offer a calibration service for their torque wrenches. Halfords recommend the same service for their advance range as they are Norbar tools.
Calibration is only really worth bothering with if the tool is a precision item in the first place with a calibration certificate confirming the accuracy. |

Yes Ian I took them into one of the places I work at that had just purchased a new range of decent torque wrenches complete with calibration certificates. Easy enough to compare various torque settings using one of their wrenches on one end of a nut and bolt with one of mine on the other and checking they both clicked at the same time. Had the Norbar for over twenty years and it was spot on throughout the range. It has been looked after too mind and not abused.

I use Snap On 1/2” and 3/8 digital torque wrenches. They beep, vibrate and also do angles. Amazing pieces of kit but not cheap at around £1000 for the pair

I would not have any idea how to re-calibrate a torque wrench I had a puncture fixed on my Tourer during the week, the lad that put the bolts on I am sure does not know how a torque wrench works. Gunned them on first, then used a torque wrench that seemed to click with no movement of the bolt. He did not seem to stop when the wrench clicked but continued to apply pressure. Got home and undid them and torqued them up, they were noticeably tightened differently as some were tighter then others macafee2 Last edited by macafee2; 29th August 2021 at 07:37.. |

Thanks for your thoughts. All four would cost about £315. Not quite sure I want to spend that much. I think I'm looking to buy one which would cover most of the minor work I might want to carry out on my car. Any suggestions regarding the torque range which I would need to work on my car? Regards David |

Thanks for your thoughts. That seems to tick a lot of boxes. Price, torque range etc. Would you recommend it for garage use or just emergency use? What are the draw backs? Regards David |

That's a fair comment. The total would be more than some of our cars! I have to confess that after stripping a thread on the alloy crankcase of my motorbike in the early 1980's, I swore never to trust anything other than quality torque wrenches. Teng are not quite as tightly specified for accuracy as Norbar or Halfords Advance, but equally a few Nm in 50 Nm will not really be an issue for general use. So how about this set which should cover 99% of your needs. https://www.ffx.co.uk/product/Get/Te...SABEgImGfD_BwE Or start off with just the 20Nm to 100Nm for £60 which I find to be the most useful range. https://www.toolden.co.uk/p/teng-too...iABEgIy7PD_BwE and later add the 40 to 200Nm Teng to your collection for £60 if needed. https://www.ffx.co.uk/product/Get/Te...SABEgJx2fD_BwE |
