Don't think you need to worry about the belts on a diesel, on account that they don't have any. The chain should last for a trillion miles.

Would be good if it was, but wouldn't it also be nice to think that the MOT computers were set up to notice a drop in mileage between one MOT and the next!

yea no belts for the camshaft on a diesel but there are some for other things which if they did cost £700 to replace would be a tad expensive. Mr Lates will do the belts on a V6 for much less than £700 though.

My wife's Scenic has an old MOT with the wrong mileage quoted and this was done while we still own it. Never looked at the certificate at the time and only found out much later. Never bothered doing anything about it since.
Could just be a genuine mistake.

I know at the end of the day so long as the car looks & drives OK then that should do.
:
Graham - stay positive! You like the car and you have no evidence of there being anything wrong. And even if it's done 100k, the engine will be only just run in! If you can't trace the previous owner from BT's online directory (he may be ex directory) by all means write - and enclose a SAE for his reply to make it as likely as possible he will respond. Don't say you're concerned or worried - just say you love the car, how nice it's been kept and that you want to have as much of its history as possible. He or she may have only rough ideas of the mileage - but that should help fill in the blanks and I hope, put your mind at rest.

I feel for you. I bought a 75 '04' for just over 4000 3 months ago. Seemed a good price compared to what was on the market (from a dealer). Since found out the rain sensor wipers have a mind of their own. The stereo asks for the code nearly every time you start the car, and now cruise control only works when placing a small amount of pressure onder the clutch peddel.
However everytime I look at the car and drive, all these things kinda melt into insignificance for a while. I'll get these things sorted at some point.

Good luck with writing to the former owner. Post his resonse.

That'll be the micro switch on the clutch pedal. Very simple to fix, and best of all, no cost involved. Just reach up to the back and top of the clutch pedal and feel for a small switch. Give it a squeeze, you'll hear it click back into place and cruise will once again work as it should.
