Default Help I'm stuck ! What size torx are the water pump bolts ?

Further to my post about my leaking water pump. I've stripped away the engine mounting to get to the pump and assumed the bolts would be standard bolts but they appear to be torx bolts and I haven't the tool to fit. Anyone done this job that can advise please

I can’t remember the size Pete, but a metric socket fits well enough, I’ve always removed and replaced the bolts without using the torx socket.

Hi Andy, I’ve managed to get the thermostat out using a 1/4 inch socket over the protruding splines of the four small bolts. The water pump appears to be held in with T30 bolts needing a spline tool not 10 or 11 mm bolts which I assumed they would be . I haven’t started removing them yet in case these are not to water pump bolts ! I’ve taken the belt off and there is loads of side to side play in the pump pulley so that confirms the fault. My other worry is that the coolant is dirty and black but not oily or emulsified so I hope this just from the collapsed bearings as the engine never overheated or lost much coolant !

Well it's out and what a fiddle it was ! They are torx bolts holding it in and not 10 mm as Haynes shows ! There are a couple of similar bolts around the area which had me worried I would remove the wrong bolts. Just waiting for my replacement from DMGRS. I'm going to have to replace the top hose as I have the aluminium thermostat fitted so hopefully I can find one in the local scrapyard to tide me over as I need the car ready to go by Thursday.
