Bacteria in the heater air intake? Does it smell like a stagnant pond?

What sort of smell?

Some windscreen washer fluids can be described as "nasty", had some cheap stuff years ago, and that really smelled bad.... smelled an acrid chemical detergent, which is what it was :-)

I have the same problem in mine, and the conversation usually goes.....

SWMBO: It stinks in here!
ME: Well its not me, its the car!

Any solutions to this problem?

Usually the intake can be sorted by using something like this.

Others have had success by using an anti bacterial spray directly into the air intake behind the pollen filter in the plenum.

If the smell appears to be specifically associated with using screenwash, then the reservoir is polluted with bacteria that are feeding on the detergent. You need to sterilise the water bottle. Best way is to remove it from the wing so you can give it a thourough clean out. I suggest using a chlorine type cleaner such as Domesdos. Put an eggcupful into bottle and top up with hot water. Leave as long as possible (overnight preferably) then flush and refill with new screenwash. The blue stuff you can get in 5l bottles is good. Contains alcohol which keeps the bugs down.
