Rear subframe bush dimensions & photos - rover 75
First off, I know my vernier is rubbish
There are 4 bushes in the rear subframe - 2 (close together) at the front and 2 (further apart) at the rear. The 2 at the front are a different part number than those at the rear. BOTH TYPES ARE NLA. All 4 bushes have the same fundamental dimensions for fitting purposes from what I can see, but the 2 at the front have a different central structure than the 2 at the rear - the steel bolt hole sleeve is thicker in the front 2 bushes and the rubbers have 2 cavities (not packed with rubber like the rear 2). The bushes are slightly narrower at the bottom (for entry to subframe) and wider at the top - in order to allow them to "wedge" into position, I imagine. OK, FRONT BUSHES FIRST: DEPTH (including steel lip): 56mm. OUTER DIAMETER (at bottom): 56mm (ASSUMED). OUTER DIAMETER (at top): 57mm (ASSUMED). STEEL BOLT HOLE - INNER DIAMETER: 10.5mm. STEEL BOLT HOLE - OUTER DIAMETER: 26mm. CODE/NUMBER ON TOP OF RUBBER ON RIGHT FRONT BUSH: W17824-8 (). CODE/NUMBER ON TOP OF RUBBER ON LEFT FRONT BUSH: W17824-18 (). IMAGE 1: RIGHT FRONT BUSH (top). IMAGE 2: RIGHT FRONT BUSH (bottom). IMAGE 3: LEFT FRONT BUSH (top). IMAGE 4: LEFT FRONT BUSH (bottom). IMAGE 5: DEPTH OF CAVITY IN FRONT BUSH RUBBER. More photos to come.. Cheers, Karl. Rear subframe rear bushes..
OK, NOW THE REAR 2 BUSHES:
I had 4 of these individual bushes lying around for a while, so I've taken photos of one of those (instead of those in-situ)... DEPTH (including steel lip): 56mm. OUTER DIAMETER (at bottom): 56mm. OUTER DIAMETER (at top): 57mm. STEEL BOLT HOLE - INNER DIAMETER: 10.5mm. STEEL BOLT HOLE - OUTER DIAMETER: 20mm. IMAGE 1: DEPTH. IMAGE 2: OUTER DIAMETER AT BOTTOM, IMAGE 3: OUTER DIAMETER AT TOP. IMAGE 4: IMAGE SHOWING THE TAPER OF THE BUSH. IMAGE 5: Steel bolt sleeve outer diameter. Cheers, Karl. |

So, in summary, I'd say it's a good thing that at least the front and rear bushes have the same fitting dimensions - the individual bushes I have can, therefore, be used as a template for fabricating replacements - poly items would be ideal, I'd have thought.
Here's an image of the new subframe.. they're of pretty poor quality overall and very light IMAGE 1: Top. IMAGE 2: Bottom. By the way, I'm no engineer, I've just done my best to take measurements using the fairly basic tools in my possession. Drop me a PM if I can provide any more useful info. Cheers, Karl. |

Please see IMAGE 5 in the first post.
If anyone has a well used rear subframe lying around, please post a picture of the same area (the steel section of the subframe that holds the bush/es in place). Given the light gauge of the steel in the these subframes, I wonder if there's any benefit in having replacement bushes produced, as any corrosion to these ares will likely render the surrounding steel unfit to take a new bush.. Or maybe they hold up pretty well? (Apologies, I'm done now!). Cheers, Karl. |

Sorry to say, but it seems that all your measurements are wrong when looking on your pictures. The measurements shall be read from the "0" line on the "slider" against the scale on the caliper, not from the edge on the "slider". You are basically 3-3,5mm out on your values. A plastic caliper should also be banned, a steel ruler would even do a better job. A proper steel caliper will give you accurate readings in 0.05-0.1mm increments: http://www.technologystudent.com/equip1/vernier3.htm Last edited by beinet1; 2nd September 2016 at 04:24.. |

I found the vernier in the garage, didn't even realise I'd had one - and just got too excited to use it.. Ok, so I'll have to get my hands on a proper vernier too - will report back when reworked.. Cheers, Karl. |

Hello Karl.
Did you have any luck locating suitable replacements by any chance? Thanks in advance. Ben. |
