Bad car news on my birthday
Well I guess I shouldn't have booked it in for MOT on my birthday, but in hindsight I should have not bought it at all.
Talking about my Jaguar X Type SE diesel estate which failed MOT quite spectacularly this week. Dreaded rust got the seat belt mounting belts and emissions work was the worst and most expensive to fix. Sold to a trader today and have mixed feeling about that. 8 months ownership and £2k down the pan. On a more positive note I now have more time to continue improving my 75 Connie and my recently acquired little MGF. |

Oh dear
Sorry to hear that mate. Funnily enough my most spectacular waste of money was a Jaguar too. A 4.2 XJ6. 1983 plate bought in 1989 at £2999 and got £600 for it 9 months later
How stupid did I feel after that! It was a lot of money to lose. Learnt a bit by it mind you.... Chris |

Yep same here. X type diesel on a 05 plate. Weird issue at 50 with engine stutter. New turbo, new sensors, new clutch, full service and £2000 later, even jag couldn't find the fault. 5 months we owned that and lost nearly £3000 on the car.

Sorry to hear what's happened to you mate, far to many of the X-type diesels seem to fail on emissions, but what is real bad is how unreliable they seem to become, and on your birthday it's not good,

Not a nice birthday present at all. Love the S Type but there's no estate version if that's what you need. Never been a fan of the X Type though as, after all, it's just a Ford Mondeo with posh clothes on.

I have owned both X and S Types - I have sold both S Types, but still have 3 X Types, due mainly to their wonderful handling as 4 wheel drives. Yes, my newer one rusted, but the oldest (one of the first 100 built) is as clean as a new pin. I think it's just one's luck.

Jaguar forums back then were pretty much useless, at least with with the 75/ZT there is an amazing support network here.

I feel your pain with the X type, this is the reason they are so cheap. They are bad news in the trade at the moment especially diesels. I know of what on the surface appeared to be a great car with a very low mileage diesel owned by an old couple that had been trouble from day one, in the end they Part ex it against something else and it went from one trader to another for a year as it had so many issues.
If you can find a 3 litre petrol and the sills are sound I suspect that will be the one to keep, smooth and better than the sum of its parts if you know what I mean? The big problem even though it is Mondeo based most parts have been modified so they don't fit and they you end up paying silly money. A rear wheel bearing for example is more than twice the price and a Mondeo one will not fit. |

lost about a £800.00 but did keep the Plate which is now on Bumble and will never buy a car that has spent its life on the coast lol......you live and learn.
