How to, for replacing a side window?
Hi all, I'm sure there was a how to on here for changing the glass in a door, but I can't seem to find it now.
I need to change my drivers side front door glass as it's badly scratched (I'll clean out the seal when I do it to stop the new one getting scratched). And I've replaced the OSR door, and was going to take the glass out of that to keep as a spare, and see how to get it out, in preparation for the front one. I've got the glass loose from the mechanism, and can lift it up in the door, but I can't see how to get it out of the channels it runs in? Can anyone advise, or find the how to? Thanks, Derrick. |

If you have removed it from the mechanism, wind mech down to bottom, lift glass up and tilt front of glass down, should come out of the channels easy then

Hi Derrick. Hope you and yours are all well.
As the door is off and no power to the removed item, simply drop the 4 or 5 10mm bolts that retain the winder mechanism and manipulate it away from the area, even remove it for a spare. This will enable the glass to gain more freedom in the door. Tilt the glass at one of the top corners and gently withdraw a top corner slowly to remove from the channels. A good tip prior to freeing everything off is to tape the top of the glass to the upper door frame, that way it cannot come to harm when it breaks for freedom ! Any issues just give us a shout in the normal phone call ! Stay safe fella ! |

Cheers, mechanism is all the way down and free from the glass. I'll try and have another look at the weekend.
John, I was going to remove everything I can from the door to keep as spares. Already had to remove the door lock as the one on the replacement door the pin that pops up through the door card wouldn't stay in. |

Lower the glass.
Pull the rubber seal/channel from the top of the door, then slide the sides upwards (silicone lubricant spray is useful at this stage). Raise the glass up slightly and carefully if you need to gain access to all of the bolts. Undo the bolts With the door open, carefully lift the glass up and outwards - if I recall you have to rotate it towards the front of the car as you lift it, it will be obvious when you do it. Refitting is simply a reversal of the procedure.
