Default I don't remember this much cabin/road noise

...and I'm wondering if I can change things or just expecting too much.

I think the lower arm ball joints are going and the tracking is definitely out. There is a slight blow on the exhaust too.

The trouble is, it doesn't seem the serene car it used to be and the road noise is getting to me.

Will knackered ball joints and duff tracking make such a marked difference to the road/cabin noise???

I always fit the quietest tyres, so it can't be that. And now I'm looking at Mercedes C and E class estates.

In one sense, I have also been disappointed, in such that my expectations may have been higher than they should have been, (albeit, for a 11 year old car).
In such respects... I think I am lucky,....sort of...
I haven't driven a 75 that has been as quiet & refined as one would have you think they all are.
So, when I jump in the e class, I'm appreciating a change, (more refined).
That said, I do like the 75 for the handling, (rear Arb fitted to the contemporary suspension), makes for a more assuring drive.
I can't apologise for the fact that the e class is just nicer all round, in the same way that I can't justify that it costs so much for my bum to be cosseted like a Ferrero rocher😁👍.
The 75's are nice, but it's increasingly difficult to compare them to a more modern car.😢

Easily rectified with a days work, £100 of sound deadening and a few tools.

The mk2s are especially noisy imo.

Mk2 zt's are worse.

Tyre choice also, but don't forget thinks like the dampener at the bottom of the Strut on project drive cars and so on.

Once my new gold car is mot'd I'm doing a full strip and deadening plan on it.

You might have lost your under-tray too, that won`t help.

You haven't recently been fitted with a hearing aid have you?
I heard all sorts of noises when I got mine!

Yes my mk2 zt is not very qiuet, road noise and rumblings from the front is annoying.

I find my mk1 zt v6 really refind considering its 16 years old and fitted with the earlier stiff suspension.. around town it can become a bit jarring and few little rattles depending on road surface a potholes

I just don't seem to remember any of my 75s being as noisy as the Blue one is now.

Would knackered lower suspension arm ball joints and poor tracking make a big difference????

What can make dramatic differences to the noise in the car is the make and tread pattern of your tyres.

Just listen to cars going past you on a medium fast piece of road. The tyre noise is Loud.

As your car body insulation starts to fail due to age the noise creeps in.

Anything worn that's not meant to be increases noise, metal against metal with no buffer makes vibration worse. The whole car becomes a Bass Bin of rumbles. The Ford Escort Mk3 used to develop cracks through vibration and worn parts, big sound systems used to make the cars vibrate and problems worsen.
The 75 isn't designed to have poor and worn parts, it won't behave the same if it has them. I'm sure that you know in your mind what will solve the noise, so just get the jobs done, but with quality parts.
