Angry How hard is it to fit tyres

Had to get 4 new tyres on the 75 yesterday. Took the car to a large tyre supplier who were doing me a great deal, when they went to start the job after a 1/2 hour wait I asked them to be carefull with my wheels they werent to long reconditioned.
The fitter went away and came back with the manager,he told me that they could not garrentee no damage to the rim.I was shocked at this and asked how could this be, how hard was it to fit tyres and did he just damage everyone's wheels. He gave me a vacant look and repeated cant garrentee no damage.
So fortunately I was only about 2miles from the place that done my wheels, so I bought the tyres and took them down to them to fit.Amazingly they fitted the tyres with no damage except to my wallet £48 ponds just for fitting and disposal of old tyresbut was stuck had to do it.So my £96 saving was reduced to £48 but job done and the cars is so much better with its new tyres

If the tyre fitter has the right equipment, skill and pride in his work then he shouldn't damage your wheels but I can understand him saying he would not guarantee it.

I usually buy any tyres supply only via the net and always get my local garage to fit them because I know he will not damage my wheels. I'd never take them to a 'stranger'.

He cannot gaurantee not to damage them, but should be accountable if the worst happened.

Some ultra low profile tyres are more difficult to fit, but wouldn't have thought the tyres on your 75 would be.

If you watch any tyre fitter levering it around the rim with his specialised crow bar, you'll understand why no depot will guarantee not to 'damage' the rims. It really depends on your definition of damage. It's not possible to fit a tyre without significant pressure being applied directly to the surface finish. Any scratches/abrasion will usually be on the inner part of the outer lip and not visible after fitting. It's arguable whether fitting damage is responsible for the alloy corrosion which often leads to pressure loss. I suspect it probably is.

your lucky to find somewhere that will fit tyres you supplied. I travelled all around ayrshire to find someone and then managed to get someone to do it at kwik fit for a few quid cash in hand. It seems another "i can't be liable" law.

£48 quid for fitting and disposal!!!! Think the most I've paid is £15!

Glad you got it sorted though, I had my ZT 2 days when I took it to a recomended tyre place that managed to gouge a great chunk out of every spoke and then deny it ever happened!

That's F1 Autocentres by the way! (Don't use em!)

The place that reconditioned the wheels had said to me when i got them done if you ever needed tyres fitted to come back to them as they would fit them with no damage, it was lucky the place i went to for the tyres was close to them.
