Default Help urgently required

On my way to work this afternoon, the temp gauge was yo yo ing up and down between normal and overheated. It would be fine, then overheating, then fine and so on. About a year ago I replaced the thermostat, housing and pipes as leaked in the V. I am currently on the low on the dipstick as oil at home. Water was down a little so topped up. Seems ok in the V this time, but also, when I put heater on full one of the middle vents stays cold but the other nearest to me alternates hot and cold every few seconds. Will need to limp it home tonight after midnight, but any ideas guys. Has been playing up a bit recently like this but not as bad. Help urgently required

Is your car doing this more under load?? (Under revs) my bottom hose developed itself a small crack a while ago causing it to squirt the contents of radiator whilst under load, pulling away from junctions showing a clean set if heels to someone, etc. I never found a puddle anywhere near the car so I just thought the worst until we tried her on ramps and saw it squirting everywhere under higher than normal rev range... Mat be well off the mark but it's worth a shot?!?

Will be bleeding the coolant system this week. Cannot find any leaks, so must be an air lock. Thanks for all your replies, will post if this works.
