Default Types of diesel fuel filter

I have just tried to change my diesel fuel filter. The one I removed had in the centre a white plastic valve(?) with a small hole in it. I bought a Borg & Beck BFF 8060 which does not have this piece of plastic.
Are they interchangeable? If not, what part number do I need to get the correct filter?
Thanks for your help
Mike

I use Mann & Hummel filters from Andrew Page, they have the drain on the bottom. Any crud that gets picked up from the tank ends up at the bottom of the filter, just need to drain a little bit every 6 months or so.

Personally, I like this type of seperator before the fuel filter. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIESEL-FUE...item3f3b5f044c
